Weathertightness

CSS Group has been involved in the exterior cladding and coatings market for many years, and has completed many projects ranging from very large commercial contracts to residential housing.

The key to our success lies in “doing it right the first time”. With this attitude coupled with our experience, we are able to identify where coating systems, flashings or claddings have failed or have been installed incorrectly and to rectify the problem.

We have a very successful team of exterior repair specialists, from inspectors to hands on repair experts. We are also recommended by the markets leading cladding manufacturers and work closely with them during the repair stage.

CSS understand the strain that a leaky home can have on people before and during the repair stage. For this reason we assure minimal disruption to homeowners during this time, making the transition from a leaky building to a healthy, dry home as seamless as possible.

Here are a few things to look for if you think your home may be a leaky home:

  • Places where water can get into the framing, and,
  • Signs that water has already got in.
  • Signs that water has got in include:
- Cracks and splits in the cladding or joints - Moisture staining or other visible water damage.
- Musty smells - Efflorescence (white chalky substance) at junctions or cracks
- Mould, moss or colour degradation. - Blistering or fading paintwork, or bubbling or peeling wallpaper

Water might get in through holes, cracks, loose cladding, fixings, joints that have separated, around windows and doors, anywhere where the sealing has failed, and any area where water can pool against the cladding.

Vulnerable areas to pay attention to:

- Check any areas where the cladding has been penetrated in any way with bolts, screws or handrails, pipes etc.
- Check pergolas, cantilevered decks, fascias or guttering penetrating the cladding, poorly formed flashings and meter boxes which are not sealed or flashed.
- Check around the house to make sure ground clearances are maintained from you cladding.
